STANFORD, Calif.-- The Stanford varsity won its eighth-straight Big Sail, defeating its cross bay rivals Cal, 2-0 on a sunny Tuesday afternoon in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Senior skipper Nick Dugdale beat the Bears for the second-straight year, returning for his final season to be the team's skipper. Dugdale was joined by Kevin Laube and McKenzie Wilson-- all three who will be back at SFYC this weekend after winning the Pacific Coast Match Race Championship. Oliver Toole, Eliza Richartz and Cam Hutton were also a part of the Cardinal six-person boat.
While not only being a Bay Area rivalry, it was also a sibling rivalry. Oliver Toole, a Stanford sophomore, raced against his older sister, Cal senior, Aubrey, for the first time, with the younger brother helping the Cardinal post a 8-1 record in nine Big Sails all-time.
The St. Francis Yacht Club will be the site of the ICSA Sloop Nationals this Friday through Sunday, which will include the Cardinal.
This year's Big Sail was also tweeted live by CBS Sports' Stanford football and basketball beat writer @KyleBonagura.
