LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Stanford's Betsy Webb won the 50 free and was a part of the winning 200 free to highlight the Cardinal win on the first of three days at the Arena Invite.
Webb bettered her prelim time (22.63) by just over two-tenths of a second in the 50 free to win ahead of Cal's Liv Jensen (22.56). Sam Woodward who had the top prelim top of 22.52 was third at 22.64 as four current Cardinal were in the finals. Webb's time this year was .13 seconds off her meet record from last year.
Stanford opened up the night session by winning the 200 free relay with a time of 1:29.66, .49 seconds off the pool record set last year. This year's only change was freshman Maddy Schaefer replacing graduate Kate Dwelley, who swam along with Woodward, Andi Murez and Webb on Thursday night.
Andie Taylor was the top collegian and second overall in the 500 free with a time of 4:40.64, two seconds behind winner Lauren Boyle (4:38.18) as the Cardinal sophomore led five Stanford swimmers in the top-18.
Cal's Caitlin Leverenz beat three current or former Cardinal to win the 200 IM, swimming 1:55.66 to outdistance herself from graduate Julia Smit (1:55.83), sophomore Maya DiRado (1:57.77) and graduate Elaine Breeden (1:58.76).
The 17-team women's Arena Invite runs through Saturday.
