Amuchastegui, Mango Remain Undefeated, Cardinal Falls to Missouri

STANFORD, Calif. - The 13th-rankedStanford wrestling team fell 26-9 to No. 11 Missouri, Sunday, at Burnham Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal drops to 4-4 overall, while the Tigers improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Cardinal won three of the 10 bouts all by decisions. Senior 174 pounder Nick Amuchastegui and junior 133 pounder Ryan Mango, ranked No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, both secured wins over the Tigers to improve to 8-0 on the year. Sophomore Dan Scherer also picked up a win for the Cardinal at heavyweight.

The dual began at 149 pounds, where Stanford junior Timmy Boone dropped a major decision to No. 15 Kyle Bradley, 8-0. The Tigers extended their lead to 8-0 in the dual as Drake Houdashelt posted a 19-6 major decision over Stanford freshman Josh Lauderdale.

Stanford redshirt sophomore Bret Baumbach made his season debut at 165 pounds. He dropped a close 6-2 decision to 13th-ranked Zach Toal.

Amuchastegui scored the first points of the dual for the Cardinal. Squaring off with No. 5 Dorian Henderson, the All-American registered a takedown in the second period and an escape in the third to record the 3-0 decision. The win moved Amuchastegui into sixth all-time on Stanford's career wins list with 102.

The Tigers increased their lead in the dual to 17-3 with wins at 184 and 197 pounds. Stanford sophomore Dan Scherer added three more points to the Cardinal total with a 3-1 decision over Missouri's Devin Mellon at heavyweight.

Missouri pushed the score to 22-6 as No. 5 Alan Waters recorded a 24-7 technical fall over Stanford junior Matt Sencenbaugh at 125 pounds.

Mango scored Stanford's final points of the dual with a 9-5 decision over No. 13 Nathan McCormick at 133 pounds. It was the first win of the season for Mango over a ranked opponent.

Up next, Stanford will head to Las Vegas Dec. 2-3 for the Vegas Invitational. The next home dual for the Cardinal will be on Jan. 5 against Boise State at 6:30 p.m.
