RENO, Nev. - The Stanford wrestling posted 15.5 team points at the 17th annual Reno Tournament of Champions, Sunday, at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev.
Junior Spence Patrick and sophomore Dan Scherer led the way both posting 3-2 records in the tournament. Patrick, wrestling at 184 pounds, tallied three decisions to improve to 8-7 overall this season. Scherer, a heavyweight, moved to 11-6 overall with a fall in 1:23 (his fastest of the season) and two decisions.
Sophomore Garrett Schaner and redshirt freshman Matt Schneider, both wrestling at 157 pounds, registered 2-2 records in the tournament. Schaner recorded his first fall of the season in 3:01 and a major decision, while Schneider finished with a fall in 3:52 and a decision.
Redshirt sophomore Bret Baumbach picked up his first win of the season with a 7-4 decision over Southern Oregon's Derek Mestrovich in the consolation bracket at 165 pounds. Junior Kyler Hasson saw his first action of the season at 165 pounds, finishing 0-2.
Up next, the Cardinal will close out the 2011 year at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30.
