AUSTIN, Texas-- Maya DiRado finished off the Texas Invite with a win in the 200 back, the 400 free relay team was second and Andie Taylor (1650 free) and Maddy Schaefer (100 free) were both third as Stanford closed out the fall season on Saturday.
Stanford finished second to Texas and ahead of USC.
DiRado was the fourth winner for the Cardinal over the three-day event and one of four Stanford swimmers in the A Finals of the 200 back, scoring a time of 1:52.57. Felicia Lee (fourth), Annemarie Thayer (sixth) and Megan Fischer-Colbrie (seventh) all joined her in the top flight. DiRado was forced to come from behind, trailing third place Sarah Denninghoff over the first 100 yards, before over taking her and remaining ahead of Lauren Smart (1:53.47) and Denninghoff (1:54.06) for the win.
The Cardinal closed out the night by being edged by the Wildcats (3:12.76) with a time of 3:13.76 in the 400 free relay. Andi Murez made up nearly a half second during the second leg, but Arizona was able to hold off the charge of both Sam Woodward and Maddy Schaefer for the one-second win.
Taylor was one of five Cardinal in the top-15 in the 1650 free, swimming 16:18.95, as Allison Arnold followed in sixth place at 16:37.16. Freshman Fiona Majeau (16:46.92) finished ninth.
The freshman, Schaefer was the lead Cardinal in the 100 free race, won by Margo Geer of Arizona at 47.76. Schaefer swam 48.50, .01 ahead of teammate Andi Murez (48.51).
Stanford, owners of the nation's fastest time in the 200 and 800 free relays, won both events in Austin over the first two days. Sam Woodward also won the 100 fly on Thursday. DiRado was also a runner-up in the 200 and 400 individual medleys.
