May 13, 2011

Box Score

EUGENE, Ore.-- No. 25-ranked Stanford (27-17, 9-10 Pac-10) made four errors and host Oregon (25-23-1, 6-13 Pac-10) won the series opener 6-2 behind Tyler Anderson (7-2) on Friday evening.

A projected first round pick, the lefty struck out seven over the first seven innings, giving up one unearned run in the third. Anderson pitched to one over the minimum over the first five innings, leaving the bases loaded in the sixth and two runners on in the seventh. Anderson gave up four hits, two to freshman Brett Michael Doran.

Mark Appel (4-6) kept it close early, but the righthander also walked a season-high five as Oregon slowly opened up its lead midway through the contest.

Small ball pushed across the Ducks' third run in the fourth, as KC Serna scored following a leadoff single, bunt, groundout and single up the middle to make it 3-1. Two more runs came across in the fifth, as Serna drove in the fourth run with a two-out single and a wild pitch made it 5-1.

Appel kept it close earlier. After the fourth error, and second by leftfielder Ben Clowe, put a runner on third to lead off the third, Appel struck out the next two and got a groundout to keep it at 2-1.

Stanford opened up the game with back-to-back errors, which both came around to score and give Oregon a 2-0 lead in the first.

Appel gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits over 6.2 innings for the loss.
