No. 9 Stanford Blanks Pacific 4-0 In Offensive Clinic

STOCKTON, Calif.- Courtney Haldeman scored two goals, Hope Burke dished out two assists and No. 9 Stanford overwhelmed Pacific 4-0 with a tremendous offensive performance on Saturday afternoon, securing a victory in its NorPac opener.

The Cardinal (6-1, 1-0 NorPac) outshot the Tigers 23-5, scoring all four of its goals in a well-executed first period. Becky Dru and Alex McCawley also found the cage with goals for Stanford.

Despite a scoreless second period, Stanford continued to pressure by attempting eight of its 10 penalty corners.

The Cardinal scored all four of its goals during a 13-minute stretch midway through the first period.

Haldeman put Stanford in front 1-0 at the 9:23 mark following up a missed shot attempt to the right of the cage.

In the 14th minute, McCawley took a pass from Kelsey Harbin and fired it past Pacific keeper Ashlee Schlesier for a 2-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Haldeman scored her second goal of the game, blasting a shot home from the top of the circle after an assist from Burke.

Dru notched her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 22nd minute, with a quick shot to the left corner of the goal following another assist from Burke.

Stanford attempted 11 shots in the first period and 12 in the second. McCawley led the way with five attempts, Dru registered four shots and Harbin and Katie Mitchell both chipped in with three.

The Cardinal is back in action on Friday, Sept. 23, hosting California in a 7 p.m. contest at the Varsity Turf.
