STANFORD, Calif.- No. 6 Stanford cruised past No. 64 Saint Mary's 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium during the opening day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Stanford (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) advances in the tournament and will battle No. 50 Santa Clara on Saturday at 2 p.m. on the stadium courts. The Broncos are 3-0 after taking down No. 48 Boise State 5-2 on Friday. Meanwhile, Saint Mary's and Boise State will square off on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Stanford is serving as one of 15 host sites around the country during ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which features four teams at each site vying to advance to the National Team Indoor Championships in mid-February to be played at Charlottesville, Va.
The Cardinal locked up the doubles point quickly, booking wins on courts one and three.
Ryan Thacher and Matt Kandath easily put away their opponents at the top two spots of the lineup, dropping just four games combined in the process as Thacher won 6-1, 6-0 and Kandath prevailed 6-2, 6-1.
John Morrissey provided the clincher at the No. 4 position, winning 6-2, 6-2 as Stanford won its third consecutive match despite playing without the services of two-time All-American Bradley Klahn, who is out due to injury.
Saint Mary's (1-2, 0-0 WCC) picked up its only point with a win on court three.
