STANFORD, Calif.- No. 6 Stanford easily put away No. 50 Santa Clara 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium to sweep both of its matches during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Improving to 4-0 on the year, the Cardinal now punches its ticket to the National Team Indoor Championships, to be played Feb. 17-20 in Charlottesville, Va.
Stanford cruised past No. 64 Saint Mary's 6-1 on Friday afternoon to reach the second round, then overpowered Santa Clara on Saturday to advance. The Broncos (3-1) were coming off a victory over Boise State on Friday.
The Cardinal captured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three.
Denis Lin increased the lead to 2-0 following a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot, before Ryan Thacher's 6-3, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 position put Stanford on the brink of clinching the match.
With Stanford in front 3-0, the remaining four matches had already split first sets and were forced into a full third frame.
Daniel Ho secured the victory with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 decision on court six.
Stanford is back in action next weekend, hosting USC (Friday, Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m.) and UCLA (Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.).
