STANFORD, Calif. - All-Americans Nick Amuchastegui and Ryan Mango led Stanford against 10th-ranked American University, Sunday at Burnham Pavilion, but the Cardinal came up short, 18-17. The Cardinal drops to 5-5 overall, while the Eagles improve to 4-4 on the year.

American pulled out to a 4-0 lead in the dual as Thomas Williams recorded a 9-0 major decision over Stanford's Matt Sencenbaugh at 125 pounds.

Mango, ranked No. 9 nationally at 133 pounds, quickly tied up the score with a 21-8 major decision over Corey Borshoff. Mango racked up eight takedowns, two near fall points and 2:30 of riding time. With the win, he moves to 19-5 on the season and 10-0 in duals.

It came down to the heavyweight match, where Stanford sophomore Dan Scherer needed a technical fall or better to give the Cardinal the dual win.
