STANFORD, Calif.- No. 9 Stanford coasted past No. 10 California 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford improved to 9-4 on the year while California falls to 5-5. However, Saturday's match does not factor into the Pac-12 standings, as the rematch in Berkeley in April is designated as the counting match.
The Cardinal locked up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, sweeping all three courts.
Stanford's momentum continued in singles, tallying three consecutive victories to clinch the match.
After John Morrissey cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot, Ryan Thacher outlasted Nick Andrews in a three-setter at the top spot of the lineup.
Leading 3-0, Robert Stineman provided the clincher with a straight-set victory on court six.
Stanford is back in action next weekend, competing at the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in La Jolla, Calif.
