Piscotty Leads Cardinal to Eighth Straight Win

STANFORD, Calif.— Stephen Piscotty drove in three runs and No. 1-ranked Stanford (8-0) defeated visiting UC Davis (5-3) 5-1 on a cool Tuesday evening.

Piscotty broke up the 1-1 tie with a two-run double, before Brian Ragira followed with an RBI double in the third to make it 4-1. Piscotty added to the lead in the fifth with an RBI groundout to make it 5-1.

Dean McArdle (1-0) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief for the win, while Ben Burke (0-1) gave up the first four runs over 2.2 innings.

Jake Stewart’s second leadoff homer of the season gave the Cardinal a 1-0 lead.



NOTES:  Stanford travels to Fresno State this weekend for a  three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m. and continuing Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m…. AJ Vanegas pitched 2.0 shutout innings of relief after starting the season by giving up five runs in his first 2.1 innings (19.29 ERA)… Stanford returns the favor with the Aggies on March 27 in Davis.
