LOS ANGELES - Nicole Pechanec tied for first in floor exercise and scored her career-high in the all-around to help No. 12 Stanford to its season-high score in a 197.250-196.450 women's gymnastics loss to No. 10 UCLA on Sunday at the John Wooden Center.
Stanford (4-2) eclipsed 196 points for the first time in four meets this season and earned team high scores on the vault and floor. Pechanec had two of Stanford's four 9.9 scores on way to a runner-up finish in the all-around, with 39.325 points to 39.550 for UCLA's Samantha Peszek.
Pechanec also had a 9.9, for a second place on the uneven bars, and those scores were matched by teammates Ivana Hong and Nicole Dayton on vault. It was the second 9.9 on vault in as many meets for Dayton, tying a career-best for the junior, and it marked a career-best in the young collegiate career of Hong.
The former U.S. elite national vault champion competed in her second collegiate competition as she works herself past an early-season injury. Hong, a freshman, also expanded to the balance beam for the first time while at Stanford and scored 9.70.
Stanford and UCLA (4-1) have annually been among the Pac-12's top teams, combining to win 14 of the past 15 conference titles.
