Wrestling Falls at Arizona State in Final Dual of the Year

STANFORD, Calif. - The 16th-ranked Stanford wrestling team dropped a 22-15 decision at Arizona State, Sunday, in Wells Fargo Arena in its final dual of the year. The Cardinal finishes 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-12.

The dual started at 184 pounds, where junior Spence Patrick had a seven-match winning streak snapped in a 5-3 loss to ASU's Kevin Radford.

The Sun Devils built on their lead in the next two bouts as sophomore Alan Yen dropped a 7-5 decision to Chace Eskam at 197 pounds and sophomore Dan Scherer was edged by No. 11 Levi Cooper, 3-2, at heavyweight.

Redshirt junior Matt Sencenbaugh, wrestling for the first time since Jan. 8, scored the team's first points with an 8-1 decision over David Prado at 125 pounds. It was the fourth win of the season for Sencenbaugh.

Stanford dropped the next three matches at 133, 141 and 149 pounds, giving ASU a 22-3 lead. Sophomore Garrett Schaner stopped the Sun Devils' winning streak with a 9-1 major decision over Hans Rasmusson at 157 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Bret Baumbach pulled out a 9-1 major decision over Rush Hall at 165 pounds to cut the lead to 22-11.

Senior Nick Amuchastegui, ranked No. 1 in the nation, closed out the dual with a 9-0 major decision over Eric Starks at 174 pounds. Amuchastegui completes an undefeated regular season with an 18-0 overall record and a 15-0 mark in duals.

The Cardinal will have three weeks to prepare of the Pac-12 Championships, held in Boise, Id., on Feb. 26.
