Cardinal Second at McIntyre Regatta on Quiet Day

March 4, 2012

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-- A beautiful day in the Bay Area sometimes leads to the toughest sails.

The two-day McIntyre Team Regatta could not complete a full round robin between its 10 teams, as judges had to pull out the rule book to name a champion.

The meet did finish 34 of the scheduled 45 races with USC and Michigan going 6-1 a piece and earning the co-championship trophy. The host Cardinal were 5-1, ahead of UC Santa Barbara (5-2) and Hawaii (5-3).

As prescribed by rule D4.3, without a full round robin completing, a team's winning percentage is prescribed the winner. The Trojans and Wolverines had the best winning percentage, winning 5-of-6 events, and thus won.

First Round Records: USC 6-1, Michigan 6-1, Stanford 5-1, UC Santa Barbara 5-2, Hawaii 5-3, Northwestern 3-3, UCLA 2-5,Western Washington 1-5, UC Irvine 1-5, Oregon 0-7
