No. 11 Men's Tennis Drops 7-0 Match At No. 1 USC

April 14, 2012

LOS ANGELES- No. 11 Stanford had its season-high four-match winning streak halted, dropping a 7-0 decision to No. 1 USC on Saturday afternoon to begin a challenging SoCal road swing.

The Trojans, aiming for a fourth consecutive national championship, improved to 24-0 overall and 5-0 in Pac-12 play.

The Cardinal, which had won four in a row entering Saturday's match, fell to 14-6 overall and 4-1 in Pac-12 action.

USC swept all three courts to take the doubles point, and continued its momentum with five straight-set victories in singles.

Leading 3-0, Emilio Gomez tallied the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over John Morrissey at the No. 4 spot.

Despite dropping his match on court six, Daniel Ho won his opening set to force a third set in a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) loss to Roberto Quiroz.

Stanford will wrap up its road trip tomorrow, visiting No. 6 UCLA in a 2 p.m. contest. The match was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, but shifted to Sunday due to rain.

The Cardinal closes out its regular-season schedule next week, hosting Pacific on Wednesday, April 18, before playing at California two days later.
