SAN JOSE - The 16th-ranked Stanford softball team fell to San Jose State in a 2-1 decision, Tuesday, at SJSU Field in San Jose, Calif. The Cardinal drops to 32-13 overall, while the Spartans improve to 23-20.

Freshman Nyree White started the game in the circle, tallying two strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched. Junior Teagan Gerhart took the loss, dropping to 27-8. San Jose State's Amanda Pridmore earned the win, moving to 14-9.

The Spartans loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, but a double play started by Nyree White and a fielder's choice got the Cardinal out of the inning unscathed.

Stanford got on the scoreboard first, scoring one run in the top of the third inning. With runners on the corners, freshman Leah White hit an infield single to the pitcher, beating out the throw, allowing sophomore Danielle Miller to cross the plate.

With two Spartan runners on and one out in the bottom of the fifth, head coach John Rittman replaced Nyree White with Gerhart. She recorded consecutive outs to get Stanford out of the jam.

In the bottom of the seventh with two runners on and no outs for the Spartans, third baseman Jessica Garcia singled up the middle to score left fielder Markesha Collins and a throwing error by Stanford centerfielder Cassandra Roulund allowed Michelle Cox to score the winning run.

Up next, Stanford travels to Tempe, Ariz., for a Pac-12 Conference series at No. 4 Arizona State, Apr. 20-22. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at Noon on Sunday.
