Cardinal Shut Out by Sun Devils

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 16 Stanford softball team was shut out, 5-0, at No. 4 Arizona State, Saturday, at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. The Cardinal drops to 32-15 overall and 6-11 in the Pac-12, while the Sun Devils improve to 38-5 overall and 10-2 in the conference.

Freshman pitcher Nyree White took the loss in the circle, falling to 5-6. She gave up five runs on 12 hits in 6.0 innings. ASU senior Hillary Bach earned the win, improving to 18-0 this season.

ASU took the early 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. Centerfielder Elizabeth Caporuscio hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Alix Johnson. Designated player Amber Freeman then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, plating Annie Lockwood.

The Sun Devils increased their lead to 4-0 in the second as senior Katelyn Boyd grounded out to shortstop, allowing Talor Haro to score. Caporuscio followed up with a single to right field, scoring Johnson from second.

Senior catcher Maya Burns hit a single up the middle for the Cardinal in the top of the fifth to break up Bach's no-hitter.

Caporuscio hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning, pushing the ASU lead to 5-0.

The Cardinal and Sun Devils wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday, Apr. 22. First pitch is at Noon from Farrington Stadium.
