OJAI, Calif.- No. 10 Stanford notched a 4-2 victory over Utah on Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the Pac-12 Championships.
Stanford (17-7, 5-2 Pac-12), the tournament's No. 3 seed, picked up its second win of the year over Utah (13-11, 1-6 Pac-12), the tournament's No. 7 seed. The Cardinal edged the Utes 4-3 in Salt Lake City back on April 1.
Thursday's match was originally scheduled to start at 2 p.m., but did not begin until 7:50 p.m. due to a lengthy rain delay. Daniel Ho eventually clinched the match for Stanford at 11:30 p.m. with a win on court five.
Stanford captured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
Vi ctories from Bradley Klahn (6-2, 6-2 at No. 1) and Robert Stineman (1-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6) put the Cardinal in front 3-1, with the Utes collecting a point on court three when Slim Hamza defeated Matt Kandath.
Utah closed to within 3-2 following Dmytro Mamedov's 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ryan Thacher at the No. 2 spot.
Ho then sealed the victory with a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0 win.
Stanford is back in action on Friday, taking on USC at 3 p.m. The Trojans are ranked No. 1 in the nation but seeded No. 2 in the tournament.
