Shutout Streak Now At Seven, As No. 6 Women's Tennis Rolls

April 7, 2012

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 6 Stanford increased its shutout streak to seven in a row on Saturday morning, quickly dispatching Santa Clara 7-0 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal (15-0, 6-0 Pac-12) needed just over two hours to polish off the Broncos (8-8, 2-2 WCC) in its final non-conference match of the regular season.

The singles competition was played first, with Stanford recording straight-set victories at each position.

Mallory Burdette was first off the court, overpowering Kelly Lamble 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. It was Burdette's team-leading 28th victory.

Making just her third dual match appearance of the year, Amelia Herring survived a tough first set before cruising to a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Ellen Tsay followed with her 20th win of the season, winning 6-1, 6-4 on court three for a 3-0 lead. Veronica Li provided the clincher at No. 4, extending her overall match win streak to 12 dating back to early February.

Stanford then swept all three doubles matches, surrendering only five games combined overall.

The Cardinal concludes the year with three extremely challenging matches, squaring off against USC (Friday, April 13 - 1:30 p.m.), UCLA (Saturday, April 14 - 12 p.m.) and California (Saturday, April 21 - 12 p.m.). All three of those contests will be played at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
