STANFORD, Calif. -- Senior Chris Derrick (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) of the Stanford men's track and field team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 5-11.

Derrick set the American Collegiate Record in the 10,000 meters on Sunday at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Derrick ran a time of 27:31.38, which was also under the Olympic `A' Standard and a Stanford record by 28 seconds. Derrick broke the American Collegiate Record of Galen Rupp from 2007 and the Stanford Record of Ian Dobson from 2005.

Next up for Derrick is the Pac-12 Championships in two weeks. Derrick is expected to run both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the conference championships and NCAA Championships.

At the U.S. Olympic Trials, Derrick will likely choose between the two events, although he already has the `A' Standard in both.

This is the eighth Stanford/Muscle Milk honor of Derrick's career, which is the most of any Stanford athlete all-time.

Also Nominated: Mark Appel (baseball), Kate Baldoni (women's water polo), Emilie Boeri (lacrosse), Nicole Gibbs (women's tennis), Kathy Kroeger (women's track and field), Brad Lawson (men's volleyball), Oliver Toole (men's sailing), Andrew Yun (men's golf).
