STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 19 Stanford softball team captured its second Pac-12 series win of the year, defeating 14th-ranked Washington, 1-0, Saturday, at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal moves to 35-16 overall and 8-12 in the Pac-12, while the Huskies drop to 36-16 and 7-15 in the conference.
Freshman pitcher Nyree White earned the win in the circle, improving to 6-6. She finished with three strikeouts and issued just one walk in 6.0 innings. Junior Teagan Gerhart entered the game in the seventh and recorded her first save of the season. Washington's Bryana Walker took the loss, falling to 9-4.
Stanford took the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rookies Hanna Winter and Leah White led off the inning with back-to-back singles. A throwing error by Walker advanced Winter to third. The error proved to be costly with Winter scoring as senior Ashley Hansen reached on a fielder's choice.
The Cardinal and Huskies will wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday, May 6 at Noon. Stanford's three seniors, playing in their final regular season home game, will be recognized prior to the contest on Senior Day.
