AUSTIN, Texas-- Stanford Sailing moved onto the gold division of national championship team racing, going a combined 5-2 over two rounds of sailing
The Cardinal went 5-1 in the initial round robin and dropped its opening race against College of Charleston in the five-team gold round. Two days remain on the water for the three-boat, head-to-head round robins.
Stanford's three boats opened up team racing by winning five of six races to tie Hobart College with a 5-1 record. The Cardinal's lone loss, was to Hobart and was when the Cardinal finished, third, fourth and sixth for 15 points. Stanford won four of six races and were second in all five of its wins.
The top four teams from each seven-team round robin advanced to two separate gold rounds. Stanford, Hobart, College of Charleston and Brown all went 5-1.
Points are awarded based on finish with the lowest combined score, deemed the winner.
The Stanford women finished 13th at Nationals, ending yesterday. The coed race begins early next week.
