EAST LANSING, MICH.- Despite holding advantages in shots and penalty corners, No. 11 Stanford dropped a 2-1 decision to Michigan State on Friday afternoon.

Competing in its first road match of the year, Stanford (1-3, 0-0 NorPac) has now lost three in a row since a 10-0 rout of La Salle in its home opener one week ago.

Friday's defeat to Michigan State (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) was of the hard-luck variety, with Stanford owning an 18-10 shot edge and 9-5 cushion in penalty corners.

Lauren Becker tapped home the first goal of her career in the 26th minute, connecting on a long pass from Elise Ogle to give Stanford a 1-0 lead. Of the 16 shots attempted in the first half, 14 were taken by the Cardinal.

Katherine Jamieson evened the game at 1-1 in the 47th minute, converting on a close shot left of the cage.

Less than five minutes later, Heather Howie knocked home the go-ahead goal as both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

Becky Dru and Kelsey Harbin attempted four shots apiece to lead the Cardinal.

Stanford has suffered three consecutive losses for the first time since an 0-3 start to the 2008 campaign.

Stanford next faces Miami (OH) on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT, in the first of two neutral-site contests to take place on the Michigan State campus. The Cardinal wraps up its road swing on Monday against Central Michigan at 10 a.m. PT.
