EAST LANSING, MICH.- Katie Mitchell scored twice to lead a dominating offensive attack, as No. 11 Stanford blanked Miami (OH) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich.
The Cardinal (2-3, 0-0 NorPac) snapped a three-game losing skid, its longest since an 0-3 start to the 2008 campaign.
Stanford broke out of its slump in a big way, outshooting Miami (OH) (0-3, 0-0 MAC) by a 22-4 count while holding a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
Mitchell, who led all players with five shot attempts, scored the first of her two goals in the fourth minute, collecting a rebound following a missed shot of the goalie's pad.
Less than four minutes before halftime, Mitchell found the cage again, connecting off a pass from Hope Burke.
Courtney Haldeman rounded out the scoring at the 49:56 mark, scoring her first goal of the year thanks to an assist from Kelsey Harbin. Haldeman chipped in with four shots while Becky Dru and Alex McCawley added three.
Dulcie Davies notched her second shutout of the year, making three saves in the cage.
Stanford next Central Michigan on Monday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. PT in another neutral-site contest in East Lansing, Mich.
