STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 8 Stanford women's volleyball team downed Santa Clara, 25-10, 25-15, 25-14, Friday, in the Stanford Invitational at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal improves to 4-2 overall, while the Broncos fall to 6-2.

Freshman outside hitter Jordan Burgess led the way with nine kills, nine digs and a .529 attack percentage. Sophomore Morgan Boukather pitched in with six kills, while junior Carly Wopat and freshman Brittany Howard each tallied five kills. Freshman setter Madi Bugg controlled the offense with 28 assists to go with two kills, six digs and five blocks. Sophomore libero Kyle Gilbert anchored the defense with 11 digs. Stanford finished with a .423 hitting percentage, posting just four attack errors in the match.

The Cardinal came out fired up and won the opening set, 25-10. Stanford jumped out to a 12-6 advantage and never looked back. The Cardinal hit .464 in the set, while the Broncos posted a -.105 hitting percentage. Santa Clara was unable to recover from its 11 attack errors. Burgess led the Cardinal with four kills and four digs, while Wopat and Bugg each tallied three blocks.

Stanford secured a 25-15 win in the second set to take control of the match. The Broncos hit .000 in the set as they committed eight attack errors, while the Cardinal posted six blocks in the set. Stanford was led by Boukather, who registered four kills on six swings. Burgess added three kills and five dig, while sophomore Lydia Bai recorded three kills and a block.

The Cardinal completed the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third. The score was close early, but Stanford pulled away and led 15-10 at the media timeout. The Cardinal was 11-0-18 (.611) as a team in the third, while the Broncos hit .129. Five different Stanford players registered at least two kills in the set.

The Cardinal wraps-up the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sep. 8, taking on Loyola (Chi.) at 10 a.m. and Pacific at 6 p.m.
