No. 28 Stanford Drops 5-2 Decision At No. 12 California

Feb. 24, 2013

BERKELEY, Calif.- No. 28 Stanford came up short in a 5-2 loss at No. 12 California on Sunday afternoon in the latest chapter of the Bay Area rivalry series.

Sunday's match does not factor into the conference standings, as the April 20 contest at Taube Family Tennis Stadium will represent the Pac-12 counting match.

The Cardinal (3-5, 0-0 Pac-12), which entered the match having won five in a row in the series, captured the doubles point before the Golden Bears (5-4, 0-0 Pac-12) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in singles play.

An 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot from Nolan Paige proved to be the difference in doubles, putting Stanford in front 1-0.

California picked up the first singles point when Ben McLachlan downed John Morrissey 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 position.

One of three Stanford freshmen in the singles lineup, Anthony Tsodikov notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wyatt Houghton on court six.

Trailing 2-1, California reeled off four straight singles victories.

Stanford takes a break from dual match play, competing this weekend at the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in La Jolla, Calif.
