Stanford Seventh After Day Three at NCAA Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stanford fencing team moved up to seventh place after the first day of the women's competition at the NCAA Championships on Saturday.

Stanford was entered the day in eighth place after the men's competition concluded on Friday. The scores of the men's and women's competitions are combined to determine a team's ranking.

Freshman Vivian Kong led the way for the Cardinal in women's epee with 11 victories and is in fourth-place. Fellow epeeist Francesca Bassa finished the day with 10 wins and is currently ninth.

Avery Youngblood is currently in 18th place with five victories in women's saber, along with Atira Richards who is in 24th with two wins.

Lily McElwee is the lone Cardinal competing in women's foil and is in 24th place.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, March 24, with rounds 4-5 beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PT). The semifinal and final rounds will be streamed live on ESPN3.com.
