STANFORD, Calif.- No. 41 Stanford returned to conference play with a 6-1 victory over Arizona on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (9-9, 2-3 Pac-12) rebounded nicely from a hard-fought 4-3 loss to No. 7 Pepperdine two days ago. Meanwhile, the Wildcats (10-11, 0-5 Pac-12) have dropped five in a row and eight of their last 10 overall.
Stanford quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead, capturing the doubles point thanks to victories on courts two and three.
Maciek Romanowicz extended the advantage to 2-0 following a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sumeet Shinde at the No. 3 spot.
Robert Stineman put Stanford on the verge of clinching with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Mario Urquidi at the No. 4 position.
Daniel Ho secured the win on court five, putting away Naoki Takeda 6-3, 6-4.
Trailing 5-0, Arizona finally picked up its only point at the No. 2 spot before Trey Strobel's victory on court six closed out the match.
Stanford's five-match homestand to close out the regular season continues tomorrow, hosting No. 73 Utah at 1 p.m.
