STANFORD, Calif. - No. 23 Stanford rebounded from Saturday's 11-3 loss to visiting Washington with a 12-2 rout of the Huskies in front of 2,105 fans at Sunken Diamond. John Hochstatter needed 98 pitches to go the distance and secure the three-game Pac-12 Conference baseball series Sunday.
The Cardinal (19-11 overall, 7-5 Pac-12) used the bookend wins against Washington (9-24, 3-9) to take its third straight league series and travels to Pacific on Tuesday for a midweek non-conference game.
Hochstatter (2-1) did not have a strikeout to his name until the ninth and fanned two of three. The lefty, who faced 33 batters, gave up seven hits and walked two. The Cardinal defense backed Hochstatter with three double plays.
Brian Ragira and Danny Diekroeger had three hits apiece to lead a Stanford squad that totaled 15 knocks. Ragira also scored three times.
Brant Whiting accounted for three RBI each.
Stanford batted through the order in the second and posted six runs on seven hits for its most productive inning on the season.
Brian Guymon started the rally with a one-out single to right, stole his first career base and scored on Lonnie Kauppila's double to left.
Wayne Taylor added a two-run homer to right and Ragira followed with a homer to left. It was the first time Stanford had back-to-back dingers since Tyler Gaffney and Stephen Piscotty did the deed against UCLA in 2011.
Diekroeger tripled to complete the cycle for the Cardinal in the frame.
Ragira doubled and Austin Wilson was intentionally walked before both advanced on a double steal in the fourth. Whiting brought them in with a single.
Stanford led, 9-0, before Washington got its first run in the fifth. Michael Camporeale finished with a team-high three hits and homered in the seventh.
Ringo ripped a two-run homer in the fifth, his second on the season.
Stanford ran Trevor Dunlap (1-3) in the second after the starter was tagged for six earned runs on eight hits.
