Mari Chun Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Chun wins the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational for the second time.

Senior Mari Chun (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha High) who took the individual medalist honor at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational from Oct. 6-8, leading the Cardinal to the tournament victory has been named the Stanford/Muscle Mile Student-Athlete of the Week.

Chun shot rounds of 3-over-par 75 on Monday, 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday, and even-par 72 on Wednesday for a three-day total of 2-over-par 218. The score was enough to defeat second place Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho by four strokes. Chun led the Cardinal to their first tournament victory since last spring when they captured the Peg Barnard Invitational. The Cardinal finished with a score of 41-over-par 905 to capture the title by 16 strokes over second place Oregon. It was the second tournament win of Chun's career. She also won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in 2006.

This is the first career Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Chun.

The Cardinal are currently ranked No. 20 in the nation. They next compete when they host the 2008 Stanford Intercollegiate this weekend, Fri.-Sun., Oct., 17-19 at the Stanford Golf Course.
