Chris Derrick Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Freshman Chris Derrick has been selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 10-16.

Freshman Chris Derrick of the No. 3 men's cross country team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 10-16.

Derrick led the Stanford men to a second place finish at the NCAA West Regional and an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. Derrick placed fifth overall to help the Cardinal to a team score of 72 points, which trailed only No. 1 Oregon with 38 points.

Derrick finished with a 10,000-meter time of 28:44.31 after coming on strong over the final two kilometers. Derrick passed fellow freshman Luke Puskedra of Oregon in the final straightaway to claim the honor of the top freshman in the West Region.

This was the first career Stanford/Muscle Milk honor for Derrick. He and the rest of the cross country teams will complete their season, Monday, November 24, from Terre Haute., Ind. at the NCAA Championships.
