Nnemkadi Ogwumike Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Nnemkadi Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair High School) of the Stanford women?™s basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 3.

Sophomore forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair High School) of the No. 2/2 Stanford women?™s basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 3.

Ogwumike scored a game-high 24 points on 10-for-17 shooting as Stanford opened defense of its 2009 Pac-10 regular-season title with a 79-58 victory over cross-bay rival California Saturday afternoon. The sophomore forward also scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Wednesday?™s non-conference finale win at Fresno State.

Ogwumike?™s 24 points against California marked her sixth 20-point performance this season, and she also set a new career best with 16 rebounds. For the week, she averaged 16.0 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 56.0 percent (14-for-25) from the field.

This is Ogwumike?™s second Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the second for the women?™s basketball team in the 2009-10 season. Ogwumike and the Cardinal will travel to Southern California this weekend, visiting USC Friday night at 7 p.m. before closing the weekend at UCLA Sunday at 2 p.m.
