Senior Jayne Appel (Pleasant Hill, Calif./Carondelet High School) of the Stanford women?™s basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21.

Appel earned her second straight Pac-10 Player of the Week nod Monday after averaging 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 60.7 percent over Stanford?™s home sweep of Oregon and Oregon State. The wins clinched at least a share of the Cardinal?™s 10th straight Pac-10 regular season title as well as the top seed at next month?™s Pac-10 Tournament.

The Pac-10 honor was also the ninth of her career, tying her with former Stanford teammate Candice Wiggins for most conference player of the week honors.

Appel opened the weekend with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in the Cardinal?™s 104-60 victory over Oregon, then followed that up with her 13th double-double of the year, a 12-point, 10-rebound effort in the 82-48 Senior Night rout of Oregon State. She also blocked five shots in that victory.

This weekend, Appel and the Cardinal travel to the desert to take on Arizona State and Arizona this Thursday and Saturday, respectively. One victory this weekend will clinch the Pac-10 regular season title outright for Stanford.

Also nominated: Brent Eichenseer (Men?™s Swimming/Diving), Landry Fields (Men?™s Basketball), Sarah Flynn (Lacrosse), Tim Gentry (Men?™s Gymnastics), Alissa Haber (Softball), Carly Janiga (Women?™s Gymnastics), Jonathan Kaskow (Baseball), Brad Lawson (Men?™s Volleyball), Olivia Morgan (Synchronized Swimming), Melissa Seidemann (Women?™s Water Polo).
