This is the first honor of Erickson's career and the first for a field hockey player since Nora Soza earned the distinction in November of 2008.

Erickson scored the game-winning goal 20 seconds into overtime during Stanford's 3-2 upset at No. 17 Iowa on Sunday evening. The victory kept Stanford's undefeated 6-0 record in tact as the Cardinal is off to its best start since also opening 6-0 in 2007.

Erickson also scored a goal against Northwestern three days earlier and led Stanford in goals (2) and shot attempts (5) during the week, helping the Cardinal return from its road trip with a 3-0 mark.

Stanford is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 20, at UC Davis. The Cardinal is home on Friday, Sept. 27, hosting Pacific at 7 p.m. in the second of three night games this year to be played at the Varsity Turf.

Also nominated: Evan Morgan (men's soccer), Mariah Nogueira (women's soccer), Janet Okogbaa (women's volleyball), Ryan Whalen (football).
