Brad Lawson Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) of the Stanford men?™s volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 1-7.

Sophomore Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) of the No. 1 Stanford men?™s volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 1-7.

Lawson had 34 kills and hit .453, making only five errors, in Stanford?™s four-set victories over No. 14 UC San Diego and No. 6 Long Beach State on Friday and Saturday. Lawson also had 13 digs, five assists, three blocks, and two service aces, while helping the Cardinal to its first No. 1 ranking since 2001.

Lawson had 18 kills (.552) against UCSD and 16 (.371) against Long Beach State, during which he had eight kills in the decisive fourth set that allowed the Cardinal to break away, using an 8-1 run to break open a 19-18 score.

Lawson is hitting .402 for the season, is No. 2 in the nation in kills per set (5.16), and the team leader in total kills (289). He also has hit over .300 in his past nine matches, eight of them Stanford victories.

This is Lawson?™s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the first for the men?™s volleyball team in the 2009-10 season. Lawson and the Cardinal currently boast a 12-4 overall record and 10-2 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation heading into a two-week break for Dead Week and finals.
