The award is the first of Barte's career and first for a women's tennis player since Lindsay Burdette back in 2007 (Apr. 16-22).

Barte advanced to the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles, reaching the round of 16 in singles and earning a runner-up finish in doubles with teammate Lindsay Burdette. Ranked No. 7 in the nation in singles and No. 8 in the country in doubles, Barte secured All-America honors in both singles and doubles for the second straight year.

The 2009 Pac-10 Player of the Year, Barte led Stanford with a 35-6 overall record in singles, playing all her matches at the No. 1 spot while finishing 23-6 against nationally-ranked opponents. In doubles, Barte and Burdette finished 27-8 overall and the duo was riding a 13-match winning streak prior to a loss in Monday's national championship match.

Also nominated: Alex Clayton (men's tennis), Shannon Koplitz (softball), Drew Storen (baseball).
