Foluke Akinradewo Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Junior Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) of the Stanford women's volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30.

Oct. 1, 2007

Junior Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) of the Stanford women's volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30.

Akinradewo was unstoppable in the middle, and carried the Cardinal to wins over two top-five opponents, USC and UCLA, in a matter of 24 hours. On Thursday night, Akinradewo led the team with 18 kills on 25 attempts with just one error (.680) and put up four blocks as Stanford took down the fourth-ranked Trojans. On Friday night, she kept the offense coming against the No. 5 Bruins, adding 12 more kills in three games, while hitting at another impressive .500 clip. Akinradewo also put up six blocks in the sweep, and pounded a decisive kill to finish off the team's second consecutive top-five sweep. For the weekend, Akinradewo averaged a whopping 5.00 kills, 1.67 blocks and 6.25 points per game and recorded a kill more than half of the times she touched the ball (.596), not an easy feat considering she was hitting against two of the nation's best squads.

This is Akinradewo’s second Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2007-08 season. Akinradewo and the rest of the Stanford women's volleyball team return to action Thursday, Oct. 4 at Oregon State.

Also nominated: Jess Zutz (Field Hockey), Christen Press (Women’s Soccer), Arianna Lambie (Women’s Cross Country), Sage Wright (Men’s Water Polo)
