Junior Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) of the Stanford women's volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 3-9.
Akinradewo recorded her most prolific weekend of the season and carried the Cardinal to three more wins, including two over ranked teams, and the Stanford Invitational title. The Plantation, Fla. native recorded double-figure kills in all three matches, led the team with 47 kills and 19 blocks in three matches, and hit a whopping .547 in that span. Akinradewo opened the tournament with an 11-kill, five-block performance in a sweep of Saint Mary’s and things only went up from there. Against No. 17 Cal Poly, she stepped up and led the team with 15 kills in 22 attempts and added six blocks. The next day, Akinradewo recorded a season-best performance and helped Stanford to a win over No. 9 BYU, its sixth over a ranked opponent this season. In the match, she notched a season-high 21 kills (on just 34 attempts), a season-high eight blocks and hit .588. For her efforts, Akinradewo was named the MVP of the tournament. Akinradewo now averages 4.09 kpg and 1.48 bpg for the season.
This is Akinradewo’s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2007-08 season. Akinradewo and the rest of the Stanford women's volleyball team return to action Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Cincinnati.
