Dan Shell is in his first season with the men's basketball staff.
Shell, 32, arrives on The Farm after serving as an assistant coach at Saint Mary's over the past seven seasons. During his time as a member of the Gaels' staff, Shell's duties included recruiting, game scheduling, player development, game preparation, scouting and overseeing team academics.
Since arriving in Moraga for the 2001-02 campaign, Shell helped Saint Mary's emerge as one of the top programs in the West. During his tenure, the Gaels registered two NCAA Tournament appearances, a pair of 25-win seasons and four second-place finishes in the WCC.
Prior to Saint Mary's, Shell served a two-year stint at Oklahoma as the team's director of basketball operations. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the basketball office as well as assisting in recruiting, game scheduling and scouting. In his two years at Oklahoma, the Sooners advanced to the NCAA Tournament both years.
In 1998-99, Shell worked as an administrative assistant at Pepperdine under then-head coach Lorenzo Romar.
Shell earned his bachelor of science degree in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from California in 1998. A Kraft Scholarship Academic Achievement recipient, Shell began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Skyline High School in 1996, where he served as the junior varsity head coach. During his time at California, Shell also covered local high school sports for the Oakland Tribune.
Shell and his wife Sabrina reside in San Mateo.
