Edrick Floreal begins his second year with the Cardinal after enjoying a debut season filled with championships and new school records. Floreal will again assist with the development of Stanford's sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
Himself a world-class athlete, Edrick's experience and technical knowledge of track and field serve the Cardinal athletes in a way few coaches can. In Floreal's inaugural season with Stanford, the Cardinal women finished second in the 4x100 relay at the Pac-10 Championships while tying a school record, Tracye Lawyer won her third consecutive Pac-10 title in the heptathlon and her first NCAA title in that event, and freshman Michael Ponikvar captured the conference crown in the high jump. Several other Stanford athletes broke school records and competed on national and international teams thanks to the guidance of Coach Floreal.
Prior to his stint at Stanford, Edrick produced 13 All-Americans in three seasons at the University of Kentucky. He has also enjoyed successful coaching stints at Georgia Tech and the University of Nebraska.
Floreal graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas in 1990. While a student-athlete for the Razorbacks, he captured five NCAA triple jump titles and four NCAA team titles. He also competed for Canada at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympic Games.
