Assistant coach Karen Middleton enters her 10th season as a member of Tara VanDerveer's coaching staff.
Middleton, who was hired on May 27, 1997, handles off-campus recruiting and scouting. She also works mainly with perimeter players.
Prior to Stanford, Middleton served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Eastern Washington and South Carolina. She has also assisted with USA Basketball National Team Training Camps and served as an assistant coach at USA Basketball Olympic Festival Trials.
A four-year starter at South Carolina from 1988-1991, Middleton finished her career as the sixth-leading scorer in school history with 1,714 career points. In addition to playing in four NCAA Tournaments that included a Sweet 16 appearance, Middleton was a two-time GTE Academic All-District selection at South Carolina and participated in the 1989 USA Basketball Olympic Festival in Oklahoma City.
Middleton graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education in 1991 from South Carolina. She also earned a Master's degree from South Carolina in education in 1993.
Middleton, who was born in Monroe, N.C., graduated from McBee High School in McBee, S.C., where she scored over 2,000 points and had her jersey (#20) retired.
