Missy Penna Position: Volunteer Assistant Coach Experience: First Season

Missy Penna, a former All-American pitcher for Stanford, joins the Cardinal staff for her first year as a volunteer assistant coach in 2010.

"We are happy to have Missy back with our program," said head coach John Rittman. "She has been a tremendous help with our team and has done an outstanding job in assisting the program on and off the field."

Penna finished her career on The Farm in 2009 as one of the most accomplished players in school history. She is Stanford's career leader in strikeouts (1,267), shutouts (50), wins (119) and innings pitched (1086.1). She also currently holds several single season and game records for the Cardinal.

As a senior in 2009, Penna was one of 10 national player of the year finalists, the first player in school history to make USA Softball's top-10. She earned her second career NFCA All-America honor and ranked among the top-10 pitchers in the nation in three major pitching categories, coming in fourth in shutouts (18), fourth in wins (35) and fifth in strikeouts (364). She tied the previous league record with five Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors and twice swept the National Player of the Week honors by USA Softball and the NFCA.

Penna earned All-Pac-10 honors all four years, the 12th player in program history to do so, and was a three-time conference all-academic pick. She also became the Cardinal's second ever Academic All-American in 2009.

A native of Miami, Fla., Penna majored in civil engineering and is currently co-terming at Stanford this quarter.
