National Competition: Finished third in the 100 and 200-meter breast at the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials...placed second in the 200-meter breast, third in the 100-meter breast, and third in the 50-meter breast at the 2007 Canadian summer national championships...competed in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke at the 2006 U.S. National Championships...a member of the 2005-06 U.S. Junior National Team that participated at the junior Pan Pacific championships in Hawaii in 2005...a national finalist in the 200 breast at the 2004 national championships...holds the 18-and-under age-group records in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke...the 15-16 national age-group record holder for the 200-yard breast...a three-time junior national champion in the 200 breast, and also in the 50 breast...placed second in the 100 breast three times...helped lead the Blue Tide Aquatics Club to the 2003 and 2004 long course junior national team championship...team captain for the 2004-05 Blue Tide Aquatics...a sectional high point champion in 2003 and 2005.
2007-08 Season (Junior): The Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year...won both the 100 and the 200 breast at the 2008 NCAA Championships...also a member of the 400 medley relay that finished third and the 200 medley relay that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships...also competed in the 200 IM at the NCAA's...Pac-10 champion in the 100 and 200 breast and a member of the 400 medley relay that finished second and the200 medley relay that finished third...also finished fourth in the 200 IM at the Pac-10 Championships...improved his own school record in the 100 breast with a time of 52.03 at the NCAA Championships.
2006-07 Season (Sophomore): Set a school record in the 100 breast (52.19) with a second place finish at the NCAA Championship...placed second as a member of the 200 medley relay team and earned a third-place finish in the 200 breast (1:54.52), garnering three more All-American titles...helped the Cardinal to its 26th straight Pac-10 title by earning victories in the 100 breast (52.60), 200 breast (1:55.54), 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay, while also reaching the finals in the 200 IM (1:48.58).
2005-06 Season (Freshman): The Pacific-10 champion in the 200 breast (1:55.30), the second straight season that a Stanford swimmer had won the event, and the fourth time since 2001...helped Stanford to victory with a second-place finish in the 100 breast (53.46) and as a member of the runner-up 400 medley relay team...added more points for the Cardinal as he swam the third leg on the third-place 200 medley relay team...also swam the 200 IM at the Pac-10's...gained three All-American honors at the NCAA's with a third-place finish in the 200 breast (1:54.41), seventh-place finish in the 100 breast (53.38) and in swimming the second leg on the third-place 400 medley relay team.
High School: Helped lead Northeast Christian Academy to three state championships winning the 100 breast and the 200 IM each year...for his efforts, won numerous All-America honors...ranked first in the 100 breast for private high schools in 2005...valedictorian and president of the National Honor Society at his school.
Cardinal Catalogue: Management science and engineering major ...received the Block "S" Most Outstanding Junior in 2008 and the Block "S" Most Outstanding Sophomore in 2007 for all sports at Stanford...voted a team captain for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons...parents are Jo-Ann and Gordon Kornfeld...has a brother, Ben, who is attending the University of Calgary and majoring in engineering, and a sister Jennifer, who has participated in track and swimming ... hobbies include playing the drums and the acoustic guitar, playing sand volleyball and Frisbee, and watching the Houston Astros.
