How exciting the 2009-10 season promises to be! Both our men’s and women’s teams have made significant strides in their quest to regain the national championship. These are exciting teams to watch. The Fall is full with numerous competitions. Complete men’s and women’s schedules are attached, and you can follow the results on www.gostanford.com. Don’t miss the lone Fall home event of the year –the annual ITA Regional Women’s Championships at Taube Tennis Center, Oct. 23-26. If this is your reunion weekend, stop by to say “Hello” and watch our great women’s team open the season!

2011 NCAA MEN’S/WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS

In preparation for what promises to be another fantastic participant and community event, we are hard at work with several major facility up-grades:

  1. Refurbishing the Ralph Rodriguez Clubhouse (built in 1983) interior – locker rooms, participant lounges and meeting areas.
  2. Adding scoreboards and video streaming (with sound) so that all 12 competition courts are covered.
  3. Stadium Façade:
  4. Thanks to a special gift honoring coach John Whitlinger, a special all-weather Kiosk with 24-hour public access is being developed to store app. 300 hours of  “on call” historical dvd’s of Stanford players in college and as pros.
  5. Two large all-weather screens, each programmable to show independently: Kiosk videos or selected dvd’s, live matches from center court, internet scoreboard of all matches in progress, live tennis TV broadcasts, and youtube shorts.

Contact Dick Gould if interested in supporting this endeavor.

TEAM GUIDE

It will be available on line the first of the year (www.gostanford.com). No team guides will be printed this year.

COACHSHIP ENDOWMENTS

We remind you we are actively seeking significant help for endowing our head men’s tennis coaching position and our assistant women’s coaching position. Each of these “named” endowments represents an investment of app. $1.5 million, which may be spread over a five-year period.

IWe are revved up and ready to start a great campaign this year to climb those rankings in a big way.  We have both great talent and excellent depth, which are very necessary to make good things happen in a tough  Pac 10 conference!

We welcome our 3 freshmen, Mallory Burdette (our third Burdette sister!), Stacey Tan of Lakewood, CA and Natalie Dillon of San Francisco to the Farm and will count on them to provide both challenges to the top of the lineup as well as gain the experience necessary to help this year’s squad have great success.

As usual the year starts quickly with trips to the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades Oct. 7-11, followed by local tournaments at St. Mary’s and right here at Stanford for the ITA REGIONALS, OCT. 23-26TH.  We finish up in November at the ITA National Indoors in Virginia from the 5-8th and play U. of Hawaii on the Kohala Coast, Tuesday Nov. 24th.

Look for some of our players including Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette to help out with the Esurance Tennis Classic in Mill Valley Oct. 3-4 playing alongside Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang and our own Amber Liu Chang in a benefit for breast cancer research!

There are a few spots left for the annual Thanksgiving trip to Hawaii at the beautiful Fairmont Orchid hotel on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island.  If you would like information on this year’s trip and the tennis clinic which takes place from Nov. 23rd – 27th, please feel free to give me a call or email me about details. Clinic costs start at $1,000 for adults (with app. half of that tax deductible) to $3,200 for families of 5 participants.

Thanks for your support and we will see you at the Taube Tennis Stadium for some exciting fall action and to preview this great team at the ITA Regionals October 23-26, 2009.      Lele

Over the past summer there were some good results on the court. Alex Clayton won the ITA Summer National Championship, Bradley Klahn did very well in various USTA Futures events. Ryan Thacher represented the United States in the Avory Cup in London, and won the prestigious USTA Bill Talbert Sportsmanship Award. Greg Hirshman won the La Jolla Open men’s singles, and with Richard Wire was a finalist at the Stead Open doubles. Matt Kandath reached the semifinals of the US Open Junior doubles.
