Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: leading and executing all publicity aspects for Stanford's intercollegiate athletic program, developing campaigns, managing sport-specific social media platforms, navigating strategic and crisis communications, facilitating and overseeing all media interviews, content creation, managing credential requests, award nominations, gameday operations, producing informational and promotional publications, distributing press releases, compiling statistical information and updating GoStanford.com and any other external communications.
The department works collaboratively with all divisions of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program, particularly in the areas of marketing, fan experience, video services and ticket sales to advance an integrated public relations platform that reflects positively on the image of Stanford University.
The Athletics Communications office is staffed by professionals who strive to represent Stanford Athletics and the University by creating a positive, collaborative, service-oriented and professional environment for the many customers it serves daily.
Interview Requests
All media requests for interviews with Stanford student-athletes, coaching staffs and department administration must be made in advance through the Athletics Communications office. Media members should not contact student-athletes directly. The requestor shall include the following details: media member or editor contact information, organization or publication name, deadline information, and brief description regarding the scope of the story.
Credential Requests
Event credential requests (print, photography, video, television, radio) must be submitted via email at least 24 hours in advance of the requested event date. Credential requests are subject to the review and discretion of the Athletics Communications team. We will respond to your request as soon as possible. Stanford Athletics will issue season credentials to those accredited media members who provide coverage on a regular basis. In most cases, single-event credentials will be issued.

Campus Filming/Photography Policies
To avoid disruption and to support its non-profit status, student privacy, and safety, Stanford University restricts filming and photography on Stanford-owned lands, including its Redwood City campus and open space areas such as The Dish walking trail. The university reserves the right to refuse or revoke permission to film or photograph on its property for any reason. This policy applies to filming, photography, livestreaming, podcasts and other recordings on Stanford land. Requests within the Athletics zone should be directed to Brian Risso (brisso@stanford.edu, 650-200-9513).
