One of the finest pass blockers and double-teaming trap blockers ever to attend Stanford, John Sande anchored the offensive line from 1968 to ’70. Sande started every game for Stanford in 1968 and ’69 (need to check on ’70 if I find a 1971 media guide), leading the team in minutes played in 1968 and ranking second in ’69. A first team All-Coast selection in 1969, Sande was also an honorable mention All-American selection by the AP and UPI that season. A very intelligent player, he was regarded as the captain of the offensive line. The starting center for Stanford’s 1971 Rose Bowl championship team, Sande’s son John played for the Cardinal from 1997 to 2000, making them the only father-son combination in Stanford history to play in the Rose Bowl. | |||||||||
