Pete Lazetich was the ringleader of Stanford’s “Thunder Chickens,” the rugged defensive line on the 1971 and 1972 Rose Bowl championship teams. One of the most popular players in Stanford history, Lazetich was a tremendous pass rucher with exceptional strength and was known for playing through injuries. Lazetich earned National Player of the Week honors in both 1970 and ’71. He was named a first team All-America and All-Pac-8 selection in 1971. Lazetich was selected in the second round of the 1972 NFL Draft and played five seasons in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.
