No. 3 Cardinal Improve to 20-1 Overall With Win at Washington State, 84-75

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Kate Starbird scored 31 points and third-ranked Stanford nevertrailed in beating Washington State, 84-75 in a Pac-10Conference game.

Olympia Scott added 14 points and Jamila Wideman 13 for theCardinal (20-1, 8-0 Pac-10), who shot 55 percent (29-for-53)from the field, including 7-for-15 from three-point range. Stanford forced 25 turnovers, leading to 26 points.

Washington State cut a 12-point halftime deficit to 55-47 on athree-pointer by Joanna Smith with 12:57 left. But the Cardinalresponded with a 9-2 run, capped by a bucket by Wideman, to taketheir largest lead at 64-49 with 9:51 to go.

Amy Saneholtz scored 20 points and Smith added 18 for WashingtonState (7-9, 1-6). Yvonne Kunze contributed 13 points and CathyMcNeely 10 for Washington State, which shot 48 percent(27-for-56). Jade Hyett had 11 assists.
