No. 24 Cardinal Cruises Past Manhattan, 81-59

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Peter Sauer scored a career-high 19 points and Brevin Knight added 14 to lead 24th-ranked Stanford to an 81-59 victory over Manhattan at Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.

Ryan Mendez chipped in 13 for Stanford (3-1), which was playing for the first time since the Great Alaska Shootout on November 30th. The Cardinal don't play a home game until December 28th, when they host Navy.

"That was good for us, that is what we need," said Stanford coach Mike Montgomery. "Defensively I saw some learning going on out there. We made a ton of mistakes...but we were working hard on defense."

Tarik Thacker netted 13 points and Jeronimo Bucero had 12 for Manhattan (2-1), which has dropped both meetings with the Cardinal. The previous encounter was a 73-60 decision in 1993.

Knight also recorded seven assists and six steals for the Cardinal, who made 30-of-35 free throws (86 percent) and forced 31 turnovers.

"They definitely made it a big priority to double and triple team (center) Tim (Young), so someone else had to step up," said Sauer. "There was a lot of openings and I was in the right place at the right time a lot of the time when they had more than one guy on Tim."
